Mountaineering Axes

A straight or slightly curved shaft ice axe is recommended for glacial travel. An axe with an adze is required. Please contact the Equipment Shop if you have any questions. Ice axe leashes are discouraged and not recommended.

NOTE: For participants looking to continue on to higher level courses such as AMTL 2 or Alpine Ice, a slightly curved ice axe in the 50-55cm range such as the Petzl Sum’Tec is appropriate.
